Your server on RustTV — with data straight from RCON

Every public Rust server is already in the catalog. Prove that one of them is yours — RustTV connects to its WebRCON read-only — and it gets an owner badge, live numbers every minute and, if you want, the real player list on its page.

Add my server How it works

What a verified server gets

  • Owner badge

The server page says the owner is verified — readers know the numbers come from the server itself, not from a guess.

  • Live numbers every minute

Players, queue and slots are read over RCON every 60 seconds instead of every five minutes over the Steam query.

  • Real player names, if you allow it

Rust hides names from the Steam query by default. Over RCON RustTV sees the real list and shows it on the server page — only while you keep the switch on.

  • Tracked from day one

A verified server is always tracked: 30 days of population history, a session picture and a place in the sitemap.

  • Nothing to install

No plugin, no agent. Enable WebRCON on the server (rcon.web 1), give RustTV the RCON port and password — done.

  • Read-only and encrypted

RustTV sends only serverinfo, playerlist and server.port. The password is stored encrypted and never shown again; replace or delete it any time.

How to add a server

  1. Sign in through Steam

An account is a SteamID64 and nothing else — no e-mail, no password.

  2. Enable WebRCON

Start the server with +rcon.web 1, set rcon.password and open the RCON port (28016 by default). If rcon is restricted by IP, allow the RustTV address shown on the form.

  3. Enter the address, the RCON port and the password

The server IP — the form shows what the catalog has at that address, or takes a publication request for a new server. RustTV connects, runs server.port and serverinfo and compares the answer with the catalog; a new server is published after a moderator approves it.

  4. Done

The server is marked verified, the listener keeps the connection open and refreshes the numbers every minute. The player list switch is on the same page.

What RustTV does with RCON access

Only three read-only commands are ever sent: serverinfo, playerlist and server.port. No convar is changed, nobody is kicked, no message is sent to the chat.

The password is encrypted at rest with the application key and is never returned to the browser. Removing the server deletes it.

The player list is stored as name and session length only, and only while the switch is on. Steam IDs and IP addresses from playerlist are never stored.

Verification ties the RCON endpoint to the catalog entry: it has to live on the same IP, report the same game port and — when players are online — show the same sessions the Steam query shows.

RustTV connects from 188.137.240.216. If your rcon is restricted by IP, allow that address.

Questions and answers

  • My server is not in the catalog. Can I add it?

Yes — through a publication request. Type its address on the form: the catalog is searched first, and a server it does not know is checked over the Steam query and RCON, then a moderator reviews the request. The server is published once it is approved.

  • Is it safe to hand over RCON access?

The connection is read-only and the password is stored encrypted. Still, use a dedicated RCON password and change it whenever you want to revoke access — the listener simply stops connecting.

  • What is WebRCON?

The WebSocket RCON built into Rust: start the server with +rcon.web 1 (the default on most hosts). The legacy Source RCON is not supported.

  • Does RCON replace the Steam query?

No. The Steam query keeps running every five minutes for every server; RCON adds a fresh reading every minute in between and, if you allow it, the real names.

  • Can I hide the player list again?

Yes — the switch is yours. Turning it off deletes the stored names at once.

  • How much does it cost?

Nothing. RustTV.org is a free catalog and is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios.
